Elaine is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice and The Health and Care Professions Council.
Elaine does not directly work with clients in the practice, but works with the team in a consultative role in relation to best practice Speech & Language Therapy support and understanding throughout our diagnostic processes
A graduate of Trinity College Dublin in 1996, Elaine worked predominantly in the NHS in Northern Ireland, until 2021. In a Clinical Lead role, since 2001, Elaine made a significant contribution to the set up and development of speech and language therapy services and diagnostic services for autistic children and young people. Elaine’s contribution to autism speech and language therapy services was recognised with the Autism NI Laura Millen Award in 2011
Elaine developed bespoke training for SLTs and Early Years Staff to support autistic children’s inclusion in the Department of Education Sure Start Developmental Programme. Elaine and colleagues at Glenbrook Sure Start, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, were awarded the National Autistic Society Professional Awards for ‘Inspirational Education Provision – Primary School and Early Years’ in 2019
Elaine was a Senior Therapy Advisor to the Therapist Neurodiversity Collective from December 2020 to December 2021
Elaine is a passionate pro-neurodiversity advocate. She wants to contribute to making a change in how society accepts, includes and supports neurodivergent people, especially those who are autistic . She has a specific interest in supporting NonSpeaking autistic children and young people to communicate
Elaine is the Founder Director of Access Communication C.I.C., a community interest company, established in April 2021, which offers pro-neurodiversity Speech and Language Therapy and related services for the direct or indirect benefit of autistic children and young people. Elaine provides consultancy and training for statutory and non-statutory organisations and health and education professionals on neurodiversity and regarding supporting neurodivergent people
