Kate is a Clinical Psychologist, with experience across a variety of clinical settings in the UK. She is passionate about supporting and advocating for neurodivergent people both in her professional and personal life
Kate obtained a BA in Psychology from Sheffield University, before completing a Psychology MPhil at the University of Birmingham. She has worked as a researcher in a range of settings, including physical health, Early Intervention (in psychosis) and drug and alcohol services. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, at Sheffield University in 2007. Kate has extensive clinical experience working in Community Mental Health Teams, offering psychological input to adults with complex trauma histories. Kate's therapeutic work has always been trauma-informed and person-centred. Whilst working in mental health settings, Kate has supported many clients to explore their own neurodivergence
In addition to her work in The Adult Autism Practice, Kate currently works in an NHS Autism Service, offering assessments and post-diagnostic support to children and young people. Kate places emphasis on understanding each person as an individual and she is keen to see all autism assessments become neuro-affirming and collaborative. She is passionate about working with wider systems, making environments more accessible for all and promoting the benefits of embracing difference
Kate appreciates the courage it can take to embark on an exploration of Autistic identity. She endeavours to create a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship where clients feel listened to and comfortable to express themselves openly
