Patrick Healy is a Counselling Psychologist and a Chartered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland
Patrick currently works in the HSE primary Care as a Child and Adolescent Psychologist. In that role he works to support children, young people, and their families, through early stages of assessment, and both individual and group therapeutic interventions. Many of those accessing this service are from neurodivergent communities
Patrick completed his Doctorate of Counselling Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, and has extensive experience working with both adults and children across primary and secondary care settings. Patrick has also completed a specialist placement in the National Rehabilitation Hospital, working with those experiencing difficulties as a result of an acquired brain injury. Additionally, Patrick holds a Masters in Psychology, undertaking research on the area of motivation, and a BSc in Applied Psychology
Patrick feels passionately about increasing the accessibility of mental health services, and is committed to executing research that can help evolve practices in order to do so. Most recently, he was involved in the set-up of a large randomised control trial examining best practices for treating disorders, such anxiety and depression, that often present in a primary care setting. The research looks at the prevalence of co-morbid disorders, and how utilising a transdiagnostic approach may help ensure support is offered in a more efficient and effective manner
Patrick aims to build a strong therapeutic alliance, with empathy, respect and collaboration at the foundation of his approach. He feels strongly that the strengths and differences of individuals should be celebrated and encouraged, and as such is committed to completing neurodiversity-affirmative assessments
